Reykjavík City's policy on special education and support focuses on inclusive schooling. This means that the school provides services to all its students. In formative learning, the approach is that most children work toward the same goal at the same time but with different needs. Teachers are expected to adapt their teaching to the student group and therefore need to use various teaching methods and approaches for their students.
Support services at Vesturbæjarskóli
Vesturbæjarskóli is an inclusive school where students receive individualized education. Students are expected to study in their learning group with or without support. Support can also take place outside the learning group. Assessment of individual students' needs for special support that requires changes in curriculum content, teaching methods, or learning environment takes place in consultation with parents.

The goal is to ensure children and guardians receive the right assistance, at the right time, from the right parties. Families and children in need of early support have guaranteed access to a prosperity contact in the child's immediate environment, such as in preschool or primary school. The prosperity contact offers information and guidance on services and ensures that children and guardians have unhindered access to these services.
